... and the winner is

... Johanna of Making it Well -- one of my favorite bloggers! Thanks for entering my Birthday Giveaway. I'll be in touch for your mailing info. :)

As for regular business around these parts, sewing has been a little bit slow, still, but planning has not! I've got my 3 WIPs still underway, and a new project in the works, too.

I recently saw this dress on ModCoth.com and was instantly inspired.

Graceful Greenery Dress in Dog Park

I love the scoop neckline, skinny straps, and full gathered skirt.  It looks like an early 1960s frock perfect for a summer barbeque or party. However, I'm not sure if you all have picked up on this, but I'm not a dog owner presently. The apple of my eye is my bratty darling, Duke the cat. Though I did grow up with a pet dog, I couldn't just betray Duke like that -- I'm his mom, after all. I managed to find some excellent, very similar looking cat fabric, in a Grey and Pink color scheme. I think it will make a great paring with the bodice from a recently acquired vintage pattern I picked up. Add a gathered skirt, and I'm good to go.

this bodice, plus

... a gathered skirt & this adorable fabric.

I'm in love with the cute cats and the fabric colors. It's definitely more muted than the bright Red and Yellow of the Bernie Dexter inspiration dress on ModCloth, but I love it!

Birthday Giveaway!

Oh, hello there! I know I've been missing for several days around here, (things were busy) but I've returned. Today just so happens to be my birthday, so I've decided to celebrate with a giveaway for you guys! Hopefully this will distract me from officially being on the "wrong side" of 25. Hello, 26. Let's do this!

I went with a summery theme for you guys and picked 2 lightweight, shirting cottons. One is a 2 yard length of red Robert Kaufman pima cotton with white polka dots. The other is a little over 1 yard of cute, nautical printed cotton. It's got a background of white and royal blue waves/stripes with little red boats here and there. I've also included an adorable 1960s top pattern. It's a size 38 bust, but is a basic enough shape that you could easily size it up or down, I'd think. Here's a closer look at all 3 pieces.

I'll ship to anywhere in the world, so all participants are welcome. To enter, please leave a comment on this post by 11:59pm EST on Wednesday, July 24. If you want to say happy birthday, or tell me what the best birthday present you ever got was, that'd be ok, too, though the winner will still be randomly selected.

In the meantime, I'll be eating lots of good food, possibly watching some Gossip Girl, trying to chip away at my WIPs (which aren't really any further progressed than the last time I shared, oops), and reminding myself that I'm really supposed to be an adult now.

Good luck on the giveaway, and have a great weekend!

I spy...

I've got a few projects in the works right now. This weekend I did some research at Anthropologie and inspected a top that I want to recreate, got some fabric from Mood for the job (did you know they mail your orders wrapped in a Mood shopping bag?! Now I can re-use the bag and causally flaunt it all over the place - yes!),  cut out  a new dress project, started working on a Laurel top for my friend (after seeing my rayon print version, she wanted one for herself), and did some thrifting at Goodwill, where I scored these adorable 1960s pajamas.

The PJ's are Co-Jamas by Cohler, size 36 - just my size! I paid a whopping $6 for them, and think they are awesome! As I tried to show in the photos, they've got high-waisted pants with little pleats in front and back, instead of darts, and the length of the pants is cropped/capri-length. There is an opening on the left side that is closed by an adjustable button tab that is surprisingly comfortable. Did I mention that the fabric is super cute, too? It's got light blue tulips, some medium & darker blue strawberries, dark blue butterflies, plants, and bees, and little French words. I'm in love.
